On August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of Americans demonstrated at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. This August, to commemorate the 57th anniversary of this historic event, The National Action Network is sponsoring a new March on Washington, instigated by the protest movement that has risen up since the police killing of George Floyd.

We at LaSalle want to show our support for the ‘Get Off Our Necks’ Commitment March, both with our words and our actions. Some of the LSC staff will be traveling to Washington, DC for the march on Friday, August 28, and we hope you will consider joining us.

After congregational feedback and consulting about best practices in light of the spread of COVID-19, we are encouraging all interested LaSallers to make individual plans to travel to DC for the march. This will discourage the risk of germ spreading within our own community. We are holding 10 hotel rooms at the Home2 Suites (1701 Elton Road, Silver Spring, MD 20903) for any LaSallers interested in attending on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you or your family would like to join staff at the march, please email Associate Pastor Julie Welborn for more information.

If you cannot attend the march, but are still interested in more information and resources we’re sharing in promotion of racial righteousness, please visit our Racial Righteousness page.
